STEVE HARRISON - DRUMS AND VOCALS
Steve started playing along to songs on the radio at around the age of 6, the trouble being it was on his mum's best pan's! 'Merry Christmas Everybody' by Slade and 'Tiger Feet' by Mud were his fave's. At the age of 11 his mum was sick of buying new pan's, so his parents relented and bought him his first kit. After much practice (and noise) he joined his first group at school...he was 13. "More and more people kept joining, but that was OK, in fact we got quite good and played venues in Manchester and even attracted some Record Company interest!" After stints on local radio and more gigs the band went there separate ways.
"I continued to play in various groups in the North West and have been fortunate enough to have played at some rather important events. There have been gigs for the cast and crew of 'Corrie' and I even played at Norman Whiteside's Testimonial Dinner."
Steve had a break for a while and then decided to take up the sticks again - finding himself in the fab 3 that is One Eyed Pete! Steve says it's the best band he has ever been in and who are we to argue? He is doubly happy because he even gets to do backing vocals too!
Steve is a huge Madness fan and his fave drummer is Daniel 'Woody' Woodgate; also Ringo Starr and any drummer "good enough to play for Steely Dan." His fave bands (apart from OEP) are Madness, The Beatles and Steely Dan.
Now the gear. Steve's current kit is a 5 piece Yamaha Stage Custom with wooden shells. He uses 2 Crash cymbals. a Ride cymbal, Hi-Hat and a China cymbal. He bashes 'em with Vic Firth drumsticks. His bass drum also features a blanket, 'cos that's where he sleeps after a gig with all the little mice he has collected over the years!
Ever the wise man, Steve offers this nugget of advice..."If in doubt, follow the OEP motto - Always on tour, strivin' for more!"
